Our 5th and 6th grade students swam with the manatees recently!
Every winter, hundreds of manatees migrate to Kings Bay, the headwaters of the Crystal River. The manatees migrate to Kings Bay to seek refuge from the cold Gulf waters. Crystal River is one of the only rivers in Florida where people can legally interact with manatees and swim with them in their natural habitat.
On January 18th, our 5th and 6th grade students were accompanied by a trained River Venture guide to swim with the manatees. This was a wonderful educational opportunity for our students. By looking at the photos, it looks like our students had an amazing trip!
A research study by the National Science Teachers Association Council found that field trips can deepen and enhance classroom study. At Grace we challenge students to thrive in an academically rigorous environment.
