Sign up for Summer Skills Camp Soon!

Don’t miss out on this opportunity for your 4th through 7th grader to sign up for Summer Skills Camp for the weeks of June 16 – 20 and July 21 – 25.
Week 1: Back by popular demand, Trouble on the St. Johns River!
Come join Mrs. Hines and Mrs. Porter June 16-20 (9 AM to 3:30 PM) as we learn about our local bodies of water and the animals that depend on them. Each morning, we’ll delve into the novel, Trouble on the St. Johns River, by Jane Wood. This will count towards summer reading! We’ll brush up on writing skills and explore story elements (main idea, cause and effect, and theme). Also, the novel gives students an opportunity to solve tricky math word problems.
Author Jane Wood will be coming to camp to talk with our group and sign books. She will teach campers about the writing process. We will also have a St. Johns Riverkeeper coming to visit and meet with campers as well. Jane Wood will have additional books for purchase if you are interested.
Students will spend the afternoons enjoying science and STEAM (science / technology / engineering / art / math) related activities, tackling real world problems such as how we can test our bodies of water and what we can do to undo water pollution to help save our animals.
We look forward to having so much fun you’ll hardly know you’re learning, just like the main character in our story! This camp is open to rising 4th-7th graders.
